About The Award

Award Winners 2011

The Straits Times and the Speak Good English Movement present the Inspiring Teacher of English Award – the first national award for English teachers in Singapore schools that acknowledges teachers who:

  • ignite a love for the English language in their students
  • use innovative methods to engage students and help them speak and write better
  • are passionate about making English interesting and relevant to students

The annual Award salutes these teachers for their ability and determination to inspire!

The Inspiring Teacher of English Award also sets out to have teachers share their teaching practices with their fellow teachers.

Said Mr Goh Eck Kheng, Chairman of the Speak Good English Movement Committee: “Schools form one of the front lines for improving the standard of English in Singapore, and good teachers of the language are key if we are to see this improvement happen. The Inspiring Teacher of English Award focuses attention on the important role of English Language, Literature and General Paper teachers, and we hope that the recognition of their importance by way of this award will encourage and motivate them.”

The Inspiring Teacher of English Award is presented by The Straits Times and the Speak Good English Movement, with the support of the Ministry of Education.
